The 2009 Cherished Team Dream Golf Getaway has wrapped up for another year.  The weather was awesome and the company was even better.  I just wanted to post the group shot that was taken at the end of the Dream in front of the Lobstick Tree at the Waskesiu Golf Course.

More pictures from the weekend will be posted sometime during the week.  I think everyone will be looking forward to the alternate group shot takes which reveal Goodsy getting fresh with the Gnome Icon.

2009 Roster and Match-ups

Here it is guys — the breakdown for Team Dream 2009! Remember that it is less than a week away now. I apologize for the tardiness in posting the match-ups and final details, but a few last-minute player withdrawals and entries have made for a bit of a juggling act this year. Before revealing the teams and match-ups, I thought it would be wise to update you on the changes to this year’s field.

Absent from this year’s Dream are long-timers Bobby-J and Lorenzo, and last year’s rookie sensations Vanneste and Dagenais. The carpet at our cabins will thank us! Hopefully all four of these fellows will be able to make a return to the Dream in the near future. They will most certainly be missed!

The 2009 edition of the Dream appears to be one of the stronger fields assembled in recent years, with the return of Noodle, and the addition of Schubert, Brian, and Brett. From what I have heard, these guys know how to attack a pin…….and a beer. Welcome to the Dream, fellas! With the 2008 Dream remaining deadlocked after two days of feverish competition, the anticipation and pressure are sure to build over the weekend at this year’s Dream. On paper, this may be the most unpredictable set of match-ups in the history of The Dream!

The 2009 Dream begins Saturday, May 30 at Elk Ridge Resort with tee times starting at 12:45 PM.

Here are the two teams for this year’s Dream:

Team A Team B
Kipp Clinto
Brett Trav
Jay Goodsy
Gordo Naids
Brian T-Bags
Marsh Mitch
Schubert Noodle
Shuya Todd

All right, now to the part that you’ve been waiting for: the match-ups!

Day 1

  • Schubert/Brian vs. Noodle/Trav
  • Jay/Brett vs. T-Bags/Clinto
  • Kipp/Shuya vs. Naids/Todd
  • Gordo/Marsh vs. Mitch/Goodsy

Recall the Ryder Cup style format from the last few years. 2 teams of 8 players will compete for points in order to capture the coveted Team Dream Icon.

Saturday’s format will be 4-Ball High/Low competition. That is, each player will play their own ball, but works alongside his playing partner in the foursome. 2 points or “ticks” are awarded per hole. The lowest score on one team is compared to the lowest score on the other team for a single point, and the highest score on one team is compared to the highest score on the other team for a second point. The team with the most points at the end of 18 holes earns 1 point for their side in the overall competition.

Sunday’s round begins at 11:00 AM at the Waskesiu Golf Course

On Sunday we will play Singles Match-Play. One player from each side will square off in a battle of golf prowess and mastery. The lowest score of the two players on each hole claims the hole. At the end of 18 holes, the individual with the most holes won earns a point toward their team’s overall total.

At Sunday’s end, the team of 8 with the most points claims the Team Dream Championship Icon!Day 2 Matchups will be determined after Day 1 has been completed.

Just a reminder that your green fees are payable in the clubhouse at each of the courses. Accommodation fees are to be paid to Jay. ($50). Please also factor in sharing the cost of gas with your driver and carpoolies, as well as meals and alcohol.

You may also want to bring late-night snacks for your cabin. Although BBQing hotdogs in the moonlight has become somewhat of a tradition, unfortunately, our cabins are not equipped with BBQ’s. We may need to seek other options.

I will leave finding a ride to The Dream up to you. It may be a good idea to use the website to organize carpooling arrangements. So far, Todd has offered to drive, as well as Hemant. If anyone else would be interested, please post a comment on the site.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at jasonfenrich at hotmail.com or give me a call at (306) 343-0623. We’ll see you in a few days!

Jay

Hey Team,

I’d thought I’d send out a greeting/update to fill you in on some of the details for the Team Dream 2009! As you are aware, the Dream takes place Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31.

Our tee times begin at 12:45 Saturday afternoon at Elk Ridge Resort. Following the round, we will travel in to Waskesiu to check in at Armstrong-Hillcrest cabins. Again, they are a bit dated, but the appeal is that we were able to make a single night booking. We have 4 cabins booked for our group, placing 4 Team members per cabin. Once checked in, we have the opportunity for Pizza Pete’s, pints of beer, poker and cocktails at the cabin, and perhaps a visit to the Lakeview Tavern (Lord, help us). Sunday’s round takes place at the Waskesiu Lobstick Golf Course, with tee times beginning at 11:00.

Here is a quick run-down of the costs:

  • Accommodations - $50 (Payable to Jay. You may use cheque, cash, or could e-mail the
    money in advance.)
  • Elk Ridge - $77 for Green Fees and a cart (payable in the Proshop)
  • Lobstick Course $66 for Green Fees and a cart (payable in the Proshop)

Do keep in mind that additional costs may include meals, beer, and gas money for your driver. We can arrange carpooling starting immediately, though we are waiting to hear on a person to fill our final spot at the Dream.

As soon as everyone has been confirmed, I will send out the teams and opening day matchups. Stay tuned!

Yours in Team Golf,

Jay

The Date Approaches

Alright, Gentlemen! The time has finally come to post all relevant information for the upcoming Team Dream 2008!

This year marks yet another new chapter in the history of the Dream. For the first time ever, the Dream has expanded to a 2-night, 16 member event. This new growth is sure to generate excitement, drama, and further mayhem, as witnessed in the recent past with the expansion to 12 players, and the advent of the new Ryder Cup style format.

The Dream would like to welcome two new members who will make their inaugural trip to the Dream. Jeffrey Vanneste, (whom Hemant introduced on the website a short time ago), and Chris Dagenais, who both work alongside Naids and Shuya here in Saskatoon. Both guys are great additions to the Dream and are expected to make significant contributions to their respective teams. Welcome aboard, guys!

The Dream would also like to welcome back two veteran members, Bob and Clinto, after a one year absence from the trip. You were most certainly missed last year, so it’s great to have both of you back!

To recap and add information to Hemant’s last post on the website, I have pieced together the itinerary for the weekend:

Friday, June 13th — Arrival and Check-In at Elk Ridge Resort

This year, due to the expansion, we now have two cabins/condos. Both units will sleep 10, so we should find the sleeping arrangements much more spacious and comfortable than the last few years.

Saturday, June 14th — After a late Breakfast, tee-off for Team Dream 2008 is at:

12:30, 12:37, 12:45, and 12:52.

We will play the same format as the past couple of years; 2 teams of 8 players will compete for points in order to capture the coveted Team Dream Icon.

If this is confusing for you, speak to Shuya. He’ll gladly spell it out for you!

Sunday, June 15th — After Breakfast and checkout, tee-off is at 10:30, 10:37, 10:45, and 10:52.

We will play Singles Match-Play. One player from each side will square off in a battle of golf prowess and mastery. The lowest score of the two players on each hole claims the hole. At the end of 18 holes, the individual with the most holes won earns a point toward their team’s overall total.

At Sunday’s end, the team of 8 with the most points claims the Team Dream Championship Icon!

As mentioned in Hemant’s post, the cost for accommodations is $107.00/person, (payable to me). Each round of golf will cost $71.00 and includes a cart. This is payable at the clubhouse before tee-off. It is a good idea to factor in the cost of beer on the course, Caesars at suppertime, cocktails at the cabins, and a couple of breakfasts. If you can, I would advise bringing some snacks for the late-night shenanigans. BBQ’d hot dogs are great late at night and soak up plenty of alcohol!

I would recommend making arrangements to carpool up to Elk Ridge again, and splitting the cost of gas. This website could act as a good avenue for organizing your ride to the Dream. Also, Ryan Lorenz and I will be arriving late at night on Friday evening, so anyone wanting to leave Saskatoon between 9:00 and 10:00 PM is more than welcome to join us.

Alright, on to the most important business—-the teams!

Team A Team B
Lorenzo Clinto
Vanneste Shuya
Jay Mitchy
Todder Goodsy
Gordo Naids
Bob Kipp
Travsy T-Bags
Dagenais Marsh

The matchups for Day 1:

Trav/Gord vs Clinto/Marsh
Bob/Lorenzo vs Naids/Shuya
Vanneste/Dagenais vs Kipp/Goodsy
Jay/Todd vs Tyler/Mitch

Matchups for Day 2 will be determined after Day 1 results.

Feel free to use the website to discuss the inferiority of your opponents, the likelihood Team A will win, or any other Team Dream related matter. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at “jasonfenrich at hotmail.com” or give me a call at (306) 343-0623. We’ll see you up North!

Yours in Team Golf,
Jay

Trip Details

Alright.  Jason has booked the cabins and arranged for our tee times. It’s a little pricier this year due to our extra night of accommodations. It seems that the green fees have also increased considerably. Luckily we’re all incredibly wealthy, and know that it is well worth it.

We have 16 players/travelers which will require two cabins. One 3-bedroom, and one 4-bedroom cabin have been booked (2 nights each). Cost is $107/person.

Itinerary
Friday, June 13 — Arrive Elk Ridge
Saturday, June 14 — Tee times at 12:30, 12:37, 12:45, 12:52
Sunday, June 15 — Tee times at 10:30, 10:37, 10:45, 10:52

The cost for each round (we play two) is $71, and is payable at the clubhouse. Note that this price includes the cart rental. Please try and pay Jason as soon as possible since he has put the money up-front for the cabins, and it is a pretty big chunk of change.
