What is the Team Dream?
The Team Dream Golf Getaway (TDGG) is simply put, a golf tournament held annually at the Elk Ridge Resort near the Waskesiu National Park in northern Saskatchewan, Canada.
In its humble beginnings the event was little more than an eight player (two per team) contest which consisted of thirty-six holes of golf played over a single weekend. The tournament has thrived throughout the years (the exception being 2001 in which the tournament was canceled due to the events of 9/11…well not really, but the dates do coincide). The format of play consists of a Rider Cup style event having two teams of six play the same number of holes over an action packed weekend.
As is the case with any valued ritual, the TDGG is wrought with tradition and has taken on a distinct
personality of its own. Due to booking and seeding restrictions the participants are selected / seeded on an invitational basis. Those golfers having attended the previous year’s event are automatically extended an invitation the following year. To say that these repeat invites are closely guarded would be an understatement, as evidenced by the tournament’s attendance record. Four golfers have attended every year, while another two have only missed a single tournament. From time to time new golfers fill vacancies injecting further enthusiasm into the group.
In addition to the TDGG’s exclusiveness, it also possesses a definite undertone of depravity. The TDGG’s “off course” curriculum has ran the gambit of illicit behavior including frivolity, gluttony, thievery, injury, and blatantly gratuitous nudity. It’s worth noting that more times than not, appropriate reprimands are made and no innocent person is hurt.
This tournament has found a place in the pastimes of close “Team” associates, not only making it an enjoyable summer excursion, but (for most) a near absolute priority.
